Winter Springs High School Presents “Up the Down Staircase”
For new teacher Sylvia Barrett, there's a special happiness in walking into a still-empty classroom and writing her name on the blackboard for the first time. Adapted by Christopher Sergel from a book by Bel Kaufman, “Up the Down Staircase” is the funny and touching story of an idealistic new teacher who quickly becomes discouraged during her first year at a large inner-city school. After deciding to leave public school to work in a smaller private setting she changes her mind when she realizes that she has indeed touched the lives of her students. Produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Illinois by the Winter Springs High School Drama Department, 130 Tuskawilla Rd, Winter Springs. Evening performances are at 7 pm on October 9, 10 and 11 with a matinee performance at 2 pm Sunday Oct 12. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors and $8 for adults.
